Muppet goodness!

I know that I am a little behind the curve in posting about this, but I have got to sound in.

In the past few years, the Muppets (yes, the Muppets...Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy...you know) have released several "viral videos" via YouTube. They were brilliantly done, from Beeker singing (in 6-part harmony) the Ode to Joy to Sam the Eagle (and gang) doing a take of "Stars and Stripes Forever". All of them (5 in total) were fantastically done in true Muppet fashion. They have all even passed the "applies-to-all-ages" test, making HUGE Muppet fans out of my two kiddos! (the Princess even asked that I put them on her computer to watch any time)

Sadly it has been 2 years since the last YouTube video was released, until last week. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, the Muppets released their cover of the Queen classic "The Bohemian Rhapsody"...it is their most brilliant yet!

I love the way that the Muppets have mixed the "Adult humor" (more nostalgia than real Adult humor) with the child-like fun and innocence. The Muppets take humorously omitted the reference to a murder and other very Adult themes from the song and inserted their Muppet goodness. Animal, as usual, steels the show, followed closely be Beeker. One of my favorite things is the re-emergence of Bip Bipadappa (aka MahNahMahNah). I love that character and he is very true to himself in this video.

If you are a fan of (or even 'just like') the Muppets and you have not checked out this video...DO IT! You will not be disappointed!

Until next time...

B-Marsh

Over on my "sports page", I just went off on the so called "experts"...aka the press. It was specifically about the treatment by the press toward the Broncos, but it applies in all aspects of "the press"...I won't get started.

I wanted to post about a positive thing that I saw on Sunday, and gives me hope for the Broncos. B-Marsh...Brandon Marshall! Oh yes, I just did!

But Lockedawg...he got into it with Knowshon on the sidelines.

Yes, emotions were running high and words were exchanged in the heat of the moment, but B-Marsh is improving. He isn't going to be perfect over night, but you can see that he is really trying to keep his emotions from boiling over.

The last few weeks, B-Marsh has come a long way. I think it has a lot to do with his new relationship with the "Greatest Bronco Wide Out Of All Time" Rod Smith. Smith was a phenomenal wide receiver and an even better player and an even better human being. Rod has taken B-Mars under his wing to "mentor" him, and it is showing!

I will end with this quote from B-Marsh...something that I thought I'd never hear from him...sounds a lot like his new mentor and BFF...

"It's obviously frustrating. This is probably the most frustrating game I've been a part of...We all need to look at ourselves first. I'm going to go and watch film on myself and see what I'm doing wrong, what I changed from last year, how I can help the team move the ball down the field, get the ball. So I'm going to look at myself...I'll start there!"

Until next time...

CMAC redux

When I was growing up in Jr. High (yes, I know that I just dated myself) and in High School, I was in need for some self confidence. I was introduced to something that changed my life...the martial arts. Specifically, I was involved with a class that was offered at my church. Originally it was called the "Guardian Angels" (not associated with the group from New York). That class was primarily Shotokan Karate. GA had it's issues, there was no real sparring, no weapons training, just kata and very basic self-defense, but it worked wonders on me. I began to have more confidence in myself, I took more pride in myself, and I became a much stronger Christian.

After about 3 years of the GA, the class went under a major change. There was a complete overhaul of the class, new instructor, new name new style...major overhaul! The class was now called CMAC (Christian Martial Arts Class), we moved more toward kick-boxing with an emphasis on Tae Kwon Do. There was much more stress put on sparring and competition. I was one of the only students who stayed from the previous class and again, I ate it up! I had received my Black Belt in the GA, and was utilized as an assistant instructor in CMAC. This (instructing) had the biggest impact on me in my development to adulthood. I was a senior in high school, looking to my future and what I wanted to pursue for my profession.

I had aspirations to go to art school and work for Disney, but was scared away by the art department at college. I then thought about law-enforcement (police or FBI), but lost interest in that. All the while I was continuing to instruct for CMAC, then it hit me...I love teaching!
I decided to become a high school math teacher, but between school and a very cute blond that came into my life, CMAC fell to the wayside. I still loved the martial arts, but it was not a priority in my life...at all. I married and eventually started my family with that cute blond, all the while getting farther and farther away from the martial arts.

Fast forward to June of 2009. The "Legomaniac" (my then 9-year old son) comes to me and asks to take Tae Kwon Do, and asks that I take it with him. We look into some classes and find the only one that we can really afford is at the local Rec Center. Legomaniac and I start Tae Kwon Do, and it doesn't take long for the skills to come back, the body is coming along, but the knowledge and the "what to do" flys back! After three weeks, I begin to realize that this class is only going to do go so far...there is no direct sparring, only kata (called tuls in Tae Kwon Do) and some very basic self-defense. The instructor is not very organized and alot of the time it feels like a "free-for-all" with some of the kids screwing around and NO direct instruction. While in a class, a small voice speaks to me, "You know, the stuff in CMAC was way better than this..."
That voice haunts me for the next week or so, but I don't say anything, I don't really have the time. Two weeks later, the Cute Blond says (to my shock) "Have you given any thought to starting up CMAC again?" Okay God, I get it! I have a conversation with the senior pastor at my church, and the wheels are in motion.

I had no idea what actually goes into something like this! I have spent countless hours coming up with a curriculum (kata, bunkai, self-defense, sparring protocol, class protocol), i developed a logo, I have had to look into equipment, we have had to talk to the board, the pastoral staff, the insurance company...holy cow...I just wanted to teach some martial arts!
Long story short (I know...too late!!) I just received the "Go-ahead" from my church...CMAC will be back up and running starting in Jan.
I am very excited and very scared! Please pray that I do, if nothing more, glorify God through my new class!

Until next time...

The next best thing.

Okay, so the Rox didn't get out of the first round of the playoffs this year...that is fine, I have moved on (sort of....).

When I was a little Lockedawg, just old enough to learn to throw a baseball, I found a team that I wanted to be "my team". I fell in love with a team that had a long history of success, a team that is oozing with tradition and mystique. At the ripe old age of 5 I decided to be a New York Yankee fan.

(Pause while I duck and cover with all the debris flying at me)

When the Colorado Rockies came into existence, I immediately transfered my allegiance to them, after all, they are my home town team. But a piece of me stayed loyal to the Yankees. That loyalty was strengthened when my favorite Rockies catcher became the manager of the Bronx Bombers (Joe Girardi). I am still a fan, I don't bleed pinstripes like I used to, but I am still a Yankee fan.

I love the traditions, the history, the lore of the Yankees. I love the fact that they are one of only 2 teams that do not have the players names on the back of their jerseys...you are not "A-Rod", you are "the Yankee third basemen"...to remind the players that they are a part of something bigger, and something special.

Well long story short, if the Rockies don't win a world championship, I have a back up...

Number 27 and counting!!!!

Until next time...

Perspective...

I'm a little better now. My wife has helped me take off my black and purple glasses so that I can see things a little more clearly.

What a season! I know, I know...I have a separate blog for my sport addiction...sue me!

This was one of the most fun I have had as a Rockie fan for an entire season in a long time. Sure there was the inaugural season, and that was fun, but it was only the "first season" once and then reality set in; we will be a bad team for a while. Then there was the opening season of Coors Field and the first time that we went to the playoffs, but we lost too much in the off season. 2007 was insane, but that was all concentrated in the last 2 months of the season, 2007 was a rather blah season over all. But this year, this year we were battling and in the race all season! All the pieces are in place to be contenders for a while. This year, we have battles at positions for play time. We have 8 legit outfielders we have 2 legit 3rd basemen, 2 legit 2nd basemen, the pitching staff is solid (starters and relief). Wow!! We even finally have a manager that has a clue!

This is also the year that my mini-Rockies fans have really became fans. They are getting into the game. They each have their favorite players. The Legomaniac even asked how they did as I kissed him goodnight(he never really cared before!).

Yeah, our closer fell apart in the last two games, but he was solid in 36 save situations this year. Yeah, our bats fell silent in the playoffs. But, we went to the playoffs! There are twenty-something other teams that could only wish they could be in the playoffs, and we have been there two times in the past 3 years. So life in the Rockies Nation is not so bad...not bad at all!

Besides, my orange and blue glasses fit very nicely right now!

Until next time...

Another album...

Hey gang, Lockedawg back with another music review. This time I have two to (yes, I did just say tu-tu) talk about. I will review them in separate posts.

The first is by a band that has been on my radar for a few years. I never liked what I heard enough to by an album from them...Thousand Foot Krutch. Yeah, they have had some okay songs, but like I said, nothing that grabbed me. Then I was in the car with my son (he just turned 10...yikes!!!!!) and the song "Fire It Up" came on. Then from the back seat I hear, "Woh...this is sweet". I think that sums up TFK's (I am a fan now, I can call them that!) new album, "Welcome to the Masquerade"!

TFK released two singles from "Welcome to the Masquerade" this summer (as did Skillet) and like Skillet's, the singles were awesome. "Fire It Up" was already discussed my my son, the second single was "Bring Me to Life". This time I am the one who said it, "This is sweet!" At this point, I started getting excited for the album to come out. Skillet has two awesome singles, TFK has two great singles...man, I can't wait for the albums!

Skillet's came out first, my review is below (to be honest, Awake is growing on me, there are only two songs that I skip...I'll talk more later)in short, the two singles are the best songs on the album. At this point, I was very skeptical about TFK's newest...not wanting to be disappointed again!

After hearing "Welcome to the Masquerade", my fear quickly disappeared! "Welcome to the Masquerade" is everything that I was hoping from "Awake". "Welcome to the Masquerade" is a great album, from beginning to end!

The lyrics are very upbeat...a very in your face..."Yeah, we are Christians and or God is better than anything...period" feel. I like that. My God does rock, in fact He is THE Rock! "Welcome to the Masquerade" basically says, "We as Christians need to stop hiding and live for Him!" "Fire It Up", "Bring Me To Life", "Smackdown" need I say more!? Awesome...I am now a TFK fan!

Until next time...

Music review

Okay, now that I am back, I will try my hand at a little music review. (Yes, Jerod, two in a row...shut up!)

Yesterday, one of my current favorite bands (Skillet) released their newest album (Awake). All summer I have been anticipating this album. I started getting into Skillet last year when I heard Comatose. For those of you that really know me, you know that I love the harder stuff (but my guilty pleasures are some of the "Poppy" stuff...that is for a later post), and I found it in Skillet. "Voices in the Dark" was what got me hooked and I had to pick up the entire album (Comatose).

This summer, Skillet released a new single, "Hero". It felt like it picked up where Comatose left off. The same grinding guitars, course vocals...it had great lyrics, great message (Christ is the only true Hero that we are all looking for), a great song. Then they released single #2, "Monster". Almost better than "Hero", "Monster" was a touch harder and also with great lyrics (about the 'secret' battle with sin and the struggle to keep it hidden). Two great songs!!

Yesterday, the rest of the album came out, well, it has two really great songs...which I already have...

The rest of the album is in my opinion fluff stuff thrown together to make an official album. Don't get me wrong, there are some enjoyable songs "Awake and Alive" is a good song, but over all it wasn't what I was hoping for. It feels like they were reaching out to the angsty heartbroken teens, not so much the overweight, balding, "I still want to rock" 30-somethings (okay...38-somethings).

Having said that, the more I listen to "Awake" the more it, as an album, grows on me, it is a good one for some back ground music while I grade.

Over all, as and album, "Awake" gets a 3 out of 5 ("Hero" gets a 4.5, "Monster" gets a 4.75).
Until next time...

Spilly

I know, I have a separate "Blog" for my sports ramblings, but I am just too excited! Last night the Rox (the Colorado Rockies) just loudly announced that they are for real and the rest of the Major Leagues should take notice!

Two years ago, the "experts" would have attributed it to "Lo-Do Magic". Last year, the Rox would have lost that game. This year, they have been winning like that all year!

The Dodgers are currently in first place, but we (the Rox) have overcome an 11 game deficit to now being 3 game out of first. That is not a "magical fluke" like 2007, it is playing great baseball for the majority of the season (take out April and May)! The Dodgers started out REALLY hot and built up a great lead. We started out REALLY bad and dug a huge hole. Once we dealt with some bad locker room "ju-ju" (okay...fired Hurdle) we actually started playing some great baseball...day after day...slowly digging ourselves out of the hole we dug.

Here's to a Fun September!!! Go Rox!

Chef Donald

It's that time of year again kidos. Quick, who knows what is coming up on June 9th? Seriously, somebody should know. That's right, it is Donald Duck's "Birthday"! Why the quotes, because it is just the Anniversary of Donald's first appearance in a cartoon, "The Wise Little Hen". For the majority of the Disney characters, Mickey, Minnie, etc. their "birthday" coincides with their first appearance, but Donald Duck has an actual birthday, it is March 13...but I digress.

In the weeks leading up to this momentous "birthday", what you say, how old will Donald be? I'm glad you asked, he will be 75 this year. Anyway, in the weeks leading up to June 9th, I will present a brief review/commentary on some of my favorite Donald shorts (no, I did not intend to use 'brief' and 'shorts' in the same sentence!).

This week, I want to look at "Chef Donald". Arguably, one of, if not the, best Donald short that was produced. In this short, Donald is attempting to make some waffles, encouraged by Old Mother Mallard (a sort of Rachel Ray on the radio). In the mixing of the batter, Donald accidentally adds rubber cement in instead of milk, and mayhem ensues!

I love this short, but it holds a very special place in my heart. This is the first cartoon that my son (who was 2 at the time) actually laughed at in the appropriate places. In fact, he wanted to watch it over and over and would squeak, anticipating the payoffs of some gags. He would "Oh no" when Donald got out his hatchet and just bust out with the most contagious belly laugh when Donald "waffled" his tail. But I think the best moment was when DDFC jr. first "got" that it was rubber cement when he read it off the bottle...wait, he just read it!!!!

Now, whenever I sit to watch "Chef Donald" (yes, I watch them quite often...shut up!), I hear his little giggles and squeak leading up to the payoffs...I love it!

Until next time...

Sad week

This is a sad week in the land of us "Disneyaholics". On Monday, Wayne Allwine passe away due to complications with his diabetes. What, seriously, you don't know who Wayne is and why he was so important to the Disney community, well let me tell you. Wayne was the voice of Mickey Mouse. There have been only three people to voice Mickey (really there was 5, but that is for a different time...yes I'm a geek...shut up!), Wayne, Jimmy MacDonald and the big guy himself, Walt Disney. Wayne held the job for the longest and ANY time there was a need for Mickey to speak in the past 30 years or so, Wayne performed it.

There is a great story that I heard about Wayne a few years ago that made me respect him. First, when he took over the job from Jimmy MacDonald, Jimmy explained that the original voice for Mickey was indeed Walt. Jimmy told Wayne "Just remember, kid. You are only filling in for the Boss!" Wayne took that to heart and took the position of Mickey's voice very seriously. He took it upon himself to "protect" the integrity of Mickey, he would have writers rewrite things if it didn't fit in Mickey's persona or character. Mickey was in good hands.

I have, in the past gone on record about my feelings for Mickey (remember, I am a Donald fan!...DDFC!!!!), but today, as a Disney fan, I grieve!

Wayne is survived by his wife Russi Taylor (who is the voice of...wait for it...Minnie Mouse!)

Daily Dose of Donald

You know, I got to thinking that it would be fun to do a short comment on each Donald Comic. Again, we'll see how long this lasts...
The thing that I enjoyed about today's comic is that it shows Donald's resourcefullness. He has a quick temper and when things don't go his way (which they often don't) he lets the world know he is upset, but in his temper, he finds a good "out".

Crunch time

This is my least favorite time of the year...one week before finals. The kids are in high panic mode, trying to get everything in at the last minute. The weather is HOT (I hate any weather where the temp is above 50 degrees!) and all the kids want to go outside to "work".
I'll try for another post when things settle down!

Alright kiddos, the Lockedawg is going to try to install a new daily (yeah, we'll see how long this lasts...) feature.

I can't believe that I almost forgot to wish Disney's Hollywood Studios (formally the Disney MGM Studios) a very happy 20th Anniversary! On May 1, 1989, Disney's MGM Studios opened their doors (okay technically they are gates...whatever!).

My only issue (and I know I'm not alone) is the nauseating "Ears" that are sticking up out of nowhere. Not just because of my feeling for the "rat" but really they are blocking the view of the Grauman's Chinese Theater. I do find it humorous that several of the original "imagineers" have voiced their disapproval of them too! Oh well...

Not the comic...

Okay kids, it is time for the Lockedawg to try his hand at a movie review.

I grew up as a big comic book geek! I loved them all, Batman was my favorite (but the only DC comic I enjoyed), then there was The Punisher, Spiderman, The Avengers and of course The X-Men. I loved the escape that comics provided, spending some time in a world where people could fly, climb walls, do super-cool-sweet ninja kicks. There was also the drama of relationships, betrayal, loyalties questioned, basically soap operas for geeks. I ate them up!

When the newest Hollywood craze of making movies out of comic books, I was of course excited, imaging getting to see on screen the comics I knew and loved. To my initial disappointment, I found the movies to be lacking. "That's not how so-and-so would say that", "that's not where so-and-so came from", "that not how...". I soon got over it realizing that movies are not exactly like the books and so it is with the superhero movies. There will be differences, some things don't translate onto the "big screen", some back stories are too complicated, etc.

Having said all that, I went to see X-Men Origins Wolverine this weekend and was not disappointed! No, it will not be nominated for an Oscar, and no, it does not follow the comic mythos of Wolverine either. It is what it is, an action packed, big screen rendition of a comic book superhero. There was lots of action, lots of explosions, characters that I have grown to love doing what they do best...destroying things and getting the bad guys. There was relationship drama, there was betrayal, loyalties questioned...everything I enjoyed in the comics. This was a comic book on the big screen.

I have seen quite a few reviews by some of the so-called "fanboys" that are upset that it didn't tell the story of Wolverine that they have accepted. No,it was not a carbon copy of the exact story that I knew growing up. It is a different mythos, and I am okay with that, it fit with the mythos that was established in the previous X-Men movies and the consistency of the 4 movies was there, and that is what mattered to me. It is to be a pre-quel to the movie mythos, not the comics(get over it fanboys!).

Did it have good action, yes. Did it have Wolverine using his sweet claws to destroy things (and the bad guys), yes. Did it have betrayal, yes. Like I said, it was a comic book on screen, and it was a really fun ride!

Spoiler Alert: If you have not seen the movie, and don't want any of it ruined, do not read on...Okay, here is a couple of my specific issues.

There was just two scenes that I didn't like. When Logan is cleaning up in the old couples bathroom, the Logan that I know isn't that clumsy. He wouldn't have sliced up the whole bathroom, he is a finely tuned fighting machine, his body is a highly trained instrument, he has more control of himself than that! I realize that they put that scene it for two reasons, it was to demonstrate how sharp his new claws really were, and it was for some comic relief (it was pretty tense until then). The other part that bothered me, was at the end of the movie when Prof. X is escorting his new students to the plane, the "blue screen" effect was very poorly done. It looked like it was added just before the release and not cleaned up. In a movie that had some pretty nice effects, the poor ones are just that more glaring.

Until next time...

Legomania

Let me start this entry out by saying a few things about Legos. If you don't know what a Lego is, well, how's the weather under that rock where you have been living?! Legos are only the worlds most perfect toy. No, knock off Legos don't count, it's got to be the original Legos, no substitutions will be accepted! I think Legos are so cool that I even did my Master Thesis on them ("Children that play with Legos have more success at higher levels of mathematics"...ask me about it later). So it comes as no surprise that my munchkin is a Legomaniac too. This kid has more Legos than I had ever dreamed possible! He is even a member of the "Lego Club", a pseudo-club of 6-17 year-olds who live, eat, sleep, breath Legos.

Anyway, the Lego Club was sponsoring an event at a local mall where kids(members) were offered an opportunity to assist a Lego Master Builder (dream job alert!) in building an 8 foot R2D2 (the robot from StarWars...seriously, come out from under that rock for a breath every so often!). So of course, I took him (what, Legos AND StarWars...a geeks dream come true, are you kidding me?!).

When we got there, there were table after table set up where the kids mass produced a large building element out of smaller ones (true Legos are not 'bricks', they are 'building elements') and the Master Builder used them to make the R2D2. In essence, it was a small labor camp of Legos. I originally thought that my Legomaniac would be disappointed. He had hoped to actually be helping with the construction, not a little drone making mass produced rectangles. I turned to gage his reaction and poof he was gone, he was already at work. In the time it took me to turn to him, he already had 4 of the "building elements" completed. I looked around and there were at least 30 kids doing the same.

The Disney Princess, who wants nothing to do with things that are not "High School Musical", looked at me with a roll of her eyes. "So what are we going to do?"
"Do you want to make a few?" I pleaded, not really wanting to go into Claire's Boutique (the "earring store"). To my surprise she settled into a spot at one of the tables and began. I "had" to assist her, and couldn't resist in making a few (DOZEN) myself.

When you were finished, you took your elements to the front where "The Master" was assembling the R2. You then got a special certificate thanking you for being a good drone.

On the way home, I was on my cell with my wife, relating the events of the afternoon. She asked if we had a good time and I said I think he had a blast. The Disney Princess grumbled and begrudgingly admitted that she was actually glad to have 'helped'. Sometimes it is difficult to gauge the Legomaniacs reaction to things, he chimed in at this point, "No, I didn't have a blast, I had a mega-ooper-guyro-blast! I had so much fun, I had to make up a new word for it!"

Okay, the Lockedawg had a good time too...

Until next time...

April 20, 1999

I'm not one to be too heavy (okay enough with the fat jokes!), but on today, the anniversary of one of the biggest tragedies in our public schools, I felt the need to reflect.

I have a slightly different perspective of the events. My wife was teaching at an elementary school that is a feeder to Columbine and was just about 3 blocks from the High School. The kicker is that she was pregnant with our first child. I found out about the shooting at lunch, from a student who had heard it on the radio. Now remember, this is before cell phones were big (well...they were pretty big, brick-like, but not popular "big"...) I had no way of contacting her, no way of checking on her! Then I started hearing all the speculations of, bombs in the school, shooters in the neighborhood, bombs in other schools in the area...all kinds of stuff. I was in no shape to teach Algebra, I was in panic mode. Then I remember God reminding me that my students are watching me and learning how I react. So I began praying! Praying that my Beloved was okay, that she would be safe and be an instrument in calming her 1st graders and keeping them safe and that I could be a good solid grounding for my students.
I also remember being overwhelming grateful when I heard from her that she was okay and all was well!

This day just reminds me to be thankful for what God has blessed me with and to always make sure that I try to make a connection with each kid that sits in a desk in my classroom!

Until next time...

Precious Peeps

It is that time of year again...Peep season! The kiddos have hunted our house and the grandparent's house and have hit the mother-load of that most perfect of confections. The ideal combination of a marshmallow-ish substance wonderfully coated with a colored sugar covering. Oh, I am beginning to salivate as I type! This year, as "the Easter Bunny" was at the store carrying these bundles of excessive sugar-perfection to the check-out, I...I mean "he" felt like Frodo from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Assigned with the daunting task of bearing the untouchable, knowing that the protected bundle has unparalleled power and a mysterious pull for it's protector to indulge in that power.

As the munchkins discovered their prizes, I felt like Uncle Bilbo. I knew that my time with the wonderful confections was at an end and had to turn it over to the next generation. I still wanted to partake in the wonder that lies within, but all the while knowing that it would be VERY dangerous to even think of a single bite.

Tonight, as my precious daughter was eating one (a purple bunny) I began to understand Gollum. All I could think of eating one. "Must have my precious peeps. Shes only 7...you could take her. She is standing in the way of my Peeps. You have shoes that weigh as much as she does. Precious sugary Peeps. Look, she has 3 packs, she wouldn't miss one Peep (or 5 or 10..) Must have my precious peeps!"

Then it happens, "Daddy, would you like one of my green bunnies?"

Oh, bless her mother for teaching her compassion, to take pity on miserable creatures like me! Bless you child...bless you.

"No baby, I'd better not, thanks dollface!...

...Daddy loves you!

Until next time...

I miss coaching

This spring, for some reason, is really killing me!

For several years, I coached Freshman Baseball at the high school that I teach. I loved it, but life got in the way. I needed to pick up a part-time job that paid a little more than the $0.58 an hour that coaching paid and so I had to quit coaching.

I am really missing it...a lot right now. The weather is beautiful, crisp...and I want to be in a dugout making a lineup and yelling with my mouth full of sunflower seeds (yelling at the Rox isn't the same).

Last year, I coached my daughter's tee-ball team (5-6 year-olds) and had a blast, but it just wasn't the same. I couldn't call them my little fun catchy nicknames, I couldn't mock them, I couldn't steal sunflower seeds from them. Seriously, I missed the strategy, the chess game, the double switch, the hit and run, the double steal, the fake bunt...oh I love this game!

I am going to be coaching her team again. When she looks up at me with her big blues (the same as her mother's!) and asks, "Daddy will you be my coach again?" How could I say no...Oh well, the suicide squeeze will have to wait for another year.
By the way, I have a "special" blog for my rantings on "my teams" at lockonsports.blogspot.com
your welcome to stop in an rant with me.
Until next time...

Nuff said!

As a die hard Bronco fan, I just wanted to vent a little about the fiasco that just went on with my trusted Orange and Blue...namely Jay "the Whiner" Cutler. I could go off how we (the loyal Bronco Nation) should have seen this coming with his pouting over Rivers teasing him when the Chargers beat the Broncs; or at just about every press conference when he looked like he'd rather be getting a root canal then talk to the press. He was about as fit to be a team leader as I am to sing The National Anthem at Opening Day at Coors Field (hint...I couldn't carry a tune if it had Velcro and strapped to my back...yeah that bad!).

My 9 year-old has a Cutler jersey (against my recommendations...the Champ Bailey one is one I got for him!). I asked him why, why Cutler (this was during the season) and my boy said, "Because he is the quarterback, he's the leader, he's cool". I had to fight back a cringe...a leader, really?! We talked about what a leader is then, how a leader isn't out for just himself, how a leader shows what to do and how to do it by example...by doing it himself! A leader doesn't whine about situations, a leader doesn't pout when the other side is mean and "teases". A leader steps up, does what is necessary and encourages his team to do the same. When all this Cutler stuff started up, my boy and I revisited the discussion about leaders and we concluded that in this season of Easter we celebrate the life of the One True and Perfect Leader. Hunh...are these "father-son talks" for him...or me?

Anyway, I think my feelings about the Cutler situation is best summed up by a cartoonist here in Bronco country, Drew Litton

Just another thought, Tulo is now on pace for 162 homeruns this season, and no steroids! And who reminded the "Toddfather" that he could play...thank you!

Until next time...

Well, here I go...

Alright, I guess I just close my eyes and jump into the "blogosphere".

I am the Lockedawg...a 17 year-old trapped in a fat, balding, middle-aged body, who gets to hang out with, make fun of, and attempt to teach mathematics to high schoolers. I am just your average run of the mill "Joe Schmo" who has to work 3 jobs so that his kids can play sports and go to Scouts and do things like eat dinner.

I will use this place to "go off on" things that are on my mind...kind of a mental dump if you will. From my favorite teams (the Rox and Broncos) to my favorite show (Lost) to my students to my kiddos to politics and religion...whatever I need to mentally dump. To be honest, I will probably go off on several tangents (topics, not Trigonometric Functions...okay maybe them too), so beware!

Hopefully, when I'm done, I will not only feel better, but you will have a smile on your face.

Thanks for hanging out!

I will have my first official "dump" in the next post, until then...
